Running for Fat loss

running Running for Fat lossWell I did it  -

this morning I ran 5kms in 38 minutes – I truly am in a bit of shock because it was
only about 4 weeks ago that we decided to enter this Fun Run in September and I
can assure you I was not in any sort of ‘running’ condition.

My head space four weeks ago was definitely thinking about
the pain and UGH of running – that’s being honest.  Running has never been my thing and usually
my husband would comment on my shuffle and then say something like – if you
undo that rope around your knees you will probably run further.   Yes he
thinks he is a very funny man my husband.

Well I HAVE untied the rope and starting to think this
running business has more benefits then just increasing cardio benefits and
fitness.  It really is a BIG mind game.
What a great workout for women too because we struggle to find something to do
that allows us time away from all the wants and needs of our family and we don’t
really need anyone else to help us do it.
As far as fat loss is concerned running is excellent – and
of course starting out with the shuffle is fine.  I didn’t start out trying to do five kms in
one hit I just started from a fast paced walk and then increasing my running
from 1 minute sessions up to 2 and so on and so on with minute breaks or two
minute breaks in between.

Here is the thing which really makes a difference between
continuing running or stop start running.

Your head!

Yep it’s the conversation you listen to in your mind.  It’s actually quite amazing really because
you can feel a shift of some sort as you take control of your body’s aches and
pains, stop being the complainer and just get into the flow of running.

I picked up the book by Sri Chimnoy – you know the mediation
– spiritual guy – it’s called Inner Running and Outer Running – it really
helped me appreciate running in a completely different light.  He mentally trained Carl Lewis who wrote the forward
in his book and Carl explains that the competition with running is never against
the other opponents it’s always with your own capacity to run.  I love it, and I am the least competitive person
on the planet.

Sri Chimnoy talks about using your breath as your energy and
taking it in through the nose like your stealing the life force of the most
energetic people you know whether it children running in the play ground or the
fastest competitor on the field. – Actually I don’t think he uses the word
stealing – think of it more as a borrow or a tapping into J

Well it truly works – that’s the method I was using this
morning and once I shut down the voices in my head that were saying please stop
–or my feet are hurting – or I have never run this far before – etc etc – I just
blocked it out by saying  – I’m in charge
here body and you will run.
Control the breathing
In through the nose
Out through the mouth
Big deep breaths and picture life force going in
and laziness going out.

So if you’re looking for a personal challenge wanting some
extra fat loss or thinking about a new workout program – then get into running –
it covers everything and you truly feel wonderful for conquering those little
voices in your head – that we don’t like talking about.
